Does work kills?
April 7th, 2008 | by technodirty |Yes, and it is a fact that work kills more people than war. Reading the ILO (International Labor Organization) horrifying facts would make you believe this. Approximately some 2 million workers from all types of work areas lose their lives per year.
The cause of death is work-related injuries and illness, accidents causes more then 300 thousand deaths per year. Working in unsafe environment and with unsafe working practices causes more then 5000 workers death every day, eventually three persons die every 60 seconds.
Working in unsafe environments or work related injuries resulting in disabilities or accidents have caused more deaths then deaths caused due to alcohol or drugs.
People who suffer the most are the one who do manual work with the manufacturing units and are exposed to some of the most hazardous working environments. On a daily basis more then 20 people die due to heat stroke, 30 expire from carbon monoxide or other hazardous or poisonous gases in some of the chemical or inorganic products manufacturing units.
So many losses of lives, amongst them who lose their life would be the sole bread-earning members of the family. This should be a matter of concern for the companies or the local government agencies.
