Best Indian vegetarian dishes – Personal Favorite
March 31st, 2008 | by technodirty |Delhi is a paradise for people who love non-vegetarian food, learnt this by spending 25 years of my life in Delhi. In the name of vegetarian food people end up with mostly Paneer dishes (cottage cheese), like shahi paneer, matar panner, palak paneer, kadai paneer etc.
However, due to work profile I got the opportunity to travel and work in various part of the country and enjoyed some of the best vegetarian delicacies. I would like to share some of the vegetarian delights, which would be popular with most of us.
I would start from Rajasthan, a vibrant state of colors and diversity has some of the best flavors. My best would be “Chowki Dhani” a resort that hosts fair everyday in the evening and serves authentic Rajasthani cuisine. The food is so good that I wish I could have it every time I go there.

The menu consists of various Indian breads (roti), bajre ki roti, atta roti, missi roti etc., main course consists of gatte ki karhi, bajre ka halwa with loads of ghee and other nicely cooked veggies (cannot recall their names now), churma etc.
Moreover, the traditional way the food is served and the way people are greeted is superb.
Moving towards another vegetarian style of food I would go down south to Andhra, yes correct the famous “Andhra Thali” which will give you tinkle in the tongue by it’s sour, spicy and sweet tastes.

I came to know about Andra style food in Bangalore and it was introduced to me by some of my peers who were native to this style of food. The best Andhra style thali I tasted when I visited Bhimas in brigade road (Bangalore). The food is simple and is mostly served on a banana leaf, rice having the prominence is served along a dal (pappu), some veggies, nice chutneys, curd curry (kadhi, what popularly north indians would refer to it), sambhar, rasam and papad. The meal served hot and the waiter in between your meal would come for a sprinkle of ghee on rice. The overall taste is fabulous.
In south, another vegetarian delight was DOSA from MTR (Mavalli Tiffin Room). The dosa is served with sambhar and chutney and a small portion of ghee to put over dosa. I think this is the best dosa I have ever had in my life.

These would be the some of the best veggie delights which I have tasted so far, but you all would agree that home cooked food (dal, chawal, curry and bhaji etc.) that too vegetarian would always be special for each of us.
